Sun Rice is a local small business owned by Ken Tran and TJ Cruz located inside the Moxy hotel lobby. We offer “silogs” which is a Filipino breakfast/brunch staple which consists of garlic rice, sunny egg, tomato salad, and a protein.
Chef TJ Cruz was born and raised in Manila, Philippines and moved to China, Texas, and finally Oregon in 2007.
Cruz always worked in hospitality from delivery driver to managing a coffee shop then found his first professional kitchen at 25 years old.
His culinary journey took him in restaurants all over the city learning different skill sets and working different titles from sous chef to executive chef, but it was his time with Deadshot/Holdfast that really sharpened his skills. Chef Joel Stocks and Will Preisch had a huge impact on TJ and being able to start Sun Rice.
