Melaney ran bars and restaurants for many years prior to winemaking. In 2013, she started studying wine after being intimidated by it, and quickly fell in love with the winemaking process.

In 2016, Melaney and Malia sold everything they owned and moved to the Willamette Valley to work their first harvest and within 6 months Melaney was in school for winemaking and Malia was getting hands-on experience in cellars with some of the Willamette Valley's best winemakers.

After launching Landmass in 2018 and producing 200 cases, the team now produces 5000 cases and has received many accolades, including Silver in the Willamette Week's "Best of Portland, " wine category.
